An Important Debate

The next few months will find Americans have important, passionate conversations as we head towards choosing a president in November. Today Jen and I revived an ongoing discussion about a topic that impacts many Americans: Pop-Tarts.

It's been forever since we've had them in the house, but Jen picked up a box the last time she was at the store. "Did you get the frosted kind?", I asked. No, she replied, "Those are gross." "Gross?", I retorted, "Without the frosting they're barely worth eating!"

You see, like McCain and Obama, there are clear differences of opinion that differentiate my wife and me. I believe in frosted pop-tarts. She puts her faith in the naked variety.

Maybe you all can help us settle this:

Are you a frosted or un-frosted kind of person?

Which flavor of Pop-Tarts are your favorite?

Use the comments feature and bring peace to our household.

They may not be frosted but they are organic. Thus I am saving your body from harmful chemicals. What is more important...especially for our kids!

A poptart without frosting is like a day without sunshine.

This is funny... I actually bought Pop-Tarts today for the first time in - well, forever. I got Chocolate Fudge and Blueberry (both FROSTED). Sorry Jen, but I have to agree with the guys here. An unfrosted Pop-Tart is really not a Pop-Tart at all!

Oh the debate gets even better.... When Fred offered to get me pop tarts tonight he asked if I wanted it toasted?? Seriously who eats those things right out of the package? Of course I wanted it toasted!!

I actually prefer them un-toasted. Sara, for some reason doesn't put them in the toaster but puts them in the microwave.

I get frosted, strawberry pop-tarts. But her is something the Eaton's do... we toast them and then put butter on them. Go figure... I know this sounds absolutely gross.

This is Kristy (Jason's wife) I just wanted to to clarify that this Eaton does NOT put butter on her pop-tart. I rarely eat pop-tarts but if I do I like un-toasted un- frosted strawberry. But I'm weird. I don't like sweets all that much.

Well now I shall blow your minds. If the poptart is fruit flavored I like frosting, if it's chocolate or brown sugar I like it unfrosted.

You can just do what Micah does and save money, get a piece of white bread, somther in butter, load up with brown sugar (you may have to use the palm of your had to squish in the sugar), now nuke it for 30 seconds...enjoy.

A pop tart without icing brings shame to the pop-tart family. In fact, I would just assume them be called pop-nots. As in, I'm not eating a pop tart without icing. Or, I'm not eating a pop tart with butter on it. Or, I'm not eating a pop tart without a glass of cold chocolate milk. Or, I'm not eating a pop tart that isn't of the berry variety with thick, rich, crusty icing all over it......Or....if you bring me a poptart with no iceing, I might put a popknot on your head.

This is less of a debate and more about common sense.....

And finally, untoasted pop tarts are more cakey, like a breakfast desert. Toasted is warm and somewhat crunchy yet still is sweet to the taste....a very comfortable space as well. BOTH are winners....

Good day!

Thanks for weighing in folks.

Patrick- I knew we were kindred spirits- on many levels.

Mark- I just miss you buddy. Come down with the gang on their next visit!

Jason- Seriously, Butter? Because Pop-Tarts are too healthy already?

Kristy- I'm glad you married Jason. You might just save his life.

Giblets- Great opening paragraph. Been listening to a bunch of Mraz lately? And stop pandering. You can't have it both ways. You're with me on this and you know it.

Amie- didn't mean to forget you. I think I understand your dichotomy between fruit and dessert flavors. Just makes you more complex and mysterious.

And of course I love Micah's thriftiness.

Dude. Frosting. No question. Besides, it's easier to scrape it off if you don't want it than it is to mix up your own and add it if you do!

...I think I need a pop tart.

Frosted anything is good. Frosted donuts, frosted flakes, frosted mini-wheats (ok, forget that one).

The only problem I have is the low fat version. They are really thin and are usually hard as a rock.

i am shocked and appalled that anyone would ever CONSIDER an unfrosted pop-tart as a pop-tart. you might as well go buy the too-thick, nasty generic brand.

this rice ONLY eats frosted brown sugar and cinnamon.

also...i have tried to microwave them, but the pop-tart guts become too oozy and hot. a cold poptart is like the super plaque on your teeth after eating 6 mini-boxes of nerds.

Toasted chocolate (frosted) is the way to go. I love the frosted part so much that I eat around the outside first, leaving the best for last – soft and warm goodness with a crunchy topping.

Fred you should totally be a food critique or something... or maybe a poptartoligist???? Seriously this is the most amount of posts you have had in a long time and it is over a pop tart!!!

I honestly didn't know they made plain/unfrosted Poptarts. What's the point? For the record I prefer them toasted. I have eaten them buttered and thought it divine, but I won't add the extra calories now. Back in the day I would eat them untoasted. I didn't eat Poptarts (raspberry frosted I'm pretty sure) until high school. My mother never bought them, so they became a treat I bought with my babysitting money after discovering them at a friends house. Emily has never had them. Organic?! With this type of item why bother, truly. ;)

I've never had an organic pop-tart but I want to give Jen a little support. My wife spends so much time (and money) deciding on the best food for our family because she loves us. I rib her about it sometimes but I'm thrilled that she cares that much.
